Scenes from Life

Found this box of old photos when I was going through my closet, deciding what should stay and what should go. I've donated almost half my wardrobe to charity and accumulated another few boxes of miscellaneous stuff to go to Good Will. We're moving next week!

Wearing stripes and dots. It's too hot to put on anything but paper-thin t-shirts and skirts.

This tree outside my building blossomed with a shock of yellow for a couple of weeks. Now, green seedpods dangle from every branch.

Trying to keep cool with frosty beverages. Some days I wish I could just climb inside my slurpee.

Proof that I occasionally eat foods that aren't desserts. In this case, I made vegetable lasagna.

I finally got that thread situation under control. A place for every spool and every spool in it's place.

Seeking shade under a leafy canopy.

What's everyone up to this weekend? I'll be doing lots and lots of packing, trying to sell some things at a flea market if it's not too hot, and eating my weight in popsicles.

Kick Off Your Bedsocks

I love this linocut from Print for Love of Wood. Even if you aren't a printmaker, this bright and cheery print would serve as a good reminder to get up and do what you do. Some of us not-so-morning people need all the encouragement we can get.

Christopher Boffoli // Guest Post from So About What I Said

Hello, friends! My name is Melissa, and I blog at So about what I said. I was so excited when I was asked to blog for Mary today, as I always love meeting new people - and love reading new blogs!

I'm a big fan of food and art, so when you pair the two together, chances are that I'll love it. And that's exactly how I feel about Seattle photographer Christopher Boffoli's series called Disparity. The collection features tiny figures from model train sets and places them amidst edible backdrops. Doesn't it look like these guys are little construction workers? I love that this work is so original and captivating.

Thanks so much to Mary for allowing me to blog today, and feel free to stop by blog any time! :)

Polaroid Week 2011

Today is the last day of Polaroid Week on flickr, and I've had a lot of fun browsing through the submissions. Polaroids always make me feel nostalgic. The next time I'm at my parents' house, I need to dig through closets and find old photos. Anyway, here are a few of my favorites:

Scenes from Life

Just a few random photos from last weekend. We took a walk after sunset when the heat had subsided a bit, and we could finally breathe.

This sculpture is called Cupid's Garden by Chris Gardner.

My boyfriend always says this hallway makes him think of The Shining.

It's funny that no people ended up in any of these photos because there were lots of people out...young couples going to dinner, homeless guys asking us for dollars, dog walkers, and firefighters sitting outside the station in lawn chairs watching it all.

Samantha French

I've mentioned I'm moving soon, and while I'd like to completely redecorate my entire apartment, unfortunately, that's not in the budget right now. I can, however, buy a few new prints and pillows and other accessories from my fellow Etsy sellers to make the new place feel more...well, new. I've been eyeing this print, "Three Feet Below," by Samantha French for a while now. I love the abstract swirls, colors, and shadows in the reflection of the young woman in the water juxtaposed with her realistic form. I also love the warm pink and orange tones in her skin next to the cool blue and green hues of the water. Light does magical things when it hits water, and I think Ms. French has captured that dance beautifully.

I also think this print will fit nicely with a couple of other prints I purchased earlier this year by Kat Hannah and Tush Tush, and I plan on hanging them together. At some point in the coming months, when we're all moved in and everything's framed on the wall, I'll take a photo and share with you guys.

What have you bought from Etsy lately?

Sneak Peek

Here are a couple of new brooches I made last weekend: Olive the sea turtle and Dot the ladybug. They will be added to My Hideaway tonight.

Did you guys have a good weekend? We took lots of walks despite the heat and discovered a few new places in our neighborhood. We will be moving very soon to a new apartment in a different part of town, so I feel like I want to get out and spend as much time as possible around familiar sidewalks and doorways.

Dream Studio

I saw this summer house from Light Locations on Victoria's website yesterday, and I thought, God wouldn't it be amazing if this was your studio space? Actually, I would be happy if I had any type of designated art space--a basement, spare bedroom, attic, whatever--but this place? I would be in heaven.

Click either of the links above to view more photos.

Hope everyone has a restful and re-energizing weekend. The storm clouds are rolling in as I write this, so I think I'll be staying close to home tonight. I'll probably curl up on the couch and work on some new animals for the shop. Are you guys doing anything fun?

Scenes from Life

This post is all about fireworks! I took a lot of other photos over the weekend, but I had so many photos from the fireworks show on the National Mall that I decided to split them into two posts.

I just love all that color and light. It reminds me of playing with Lite-Brite when I was little. Did anyone else have one of those? Plus, big fireworks make excellent boom and crackle noises.
