Scenes from Life

These are the berry tarts I made for the 4th of July. The heart cupcake liners aren't exactly patriotic I guess, but much more me. :)

Pancakes and eggs at Luna Grill...right before they were in my belly.

I guess I've been into all things berry lately. I love these mini ice creams; they're the perfect size.

I'm trying to eat more salads lately...good for when it's too hot to stand over the stove/oven. In this one, I added avocado, hard-boiled egg, feta, spinach and other greens with a pomegranate vinaigrette.

We've had lots of rain and thunderstorms lately, as we always do in the summer. From our window, we can see planes taking off from the airport, and it always freaks me out a little to see planes ascending amid lightening bolts.  I know the pilots wouldn't take off if there were any real danger, but it looks terrifying from our vantage point.

Actually, the last two flights I took had terrible turbulence, and since then I've developed kind of a flying phobia, which I never had before. Any tips on how to calm nerves before a flight (I mean aside from taking some sort of meds)?

  1. I love all the sunflower photos, but the storms are a much more accurate depiction of what I'm going through here in Washington state! We've been having the same wishy washy weather. One day it seems sunny but by night there is lightning. Sorry I don't have flying advice for you though--I'm terrified of it! I do agree that the pilots will keep you safe though! :)

  2. Great group of photos! The food all looks so yummy and the flowers are lovely! The storm photos are scary and I can't imagine being in a plane during a lightening storm!

  3. Scandinavians are known for getting drunk before going on a plane. Afterwards nothing seems to scare them :D I am not a fan of this practice but who knows, it might work...

Beautiful scenes from a berry-infused life!

  4. That salad looks delicious! We normally have a lot of storms in the summer too, but it's been really dry this year. In fact, a lot of plants have been dying because the city can't keep up with watering everything.

  5. Is alcohol considered a med? You can take a shot to relax. I say breathing in and out helps. I usually listen to music if it gets to crazy with turbulence. When I was younger I was actually in a small 6-seater plane in a thunderstorm. Now, thats scary.

  6. Oh man, those pancakes look amazing! And so do the berry tarts!
I wish it would rain here more. It's so hot and dry. Blah.

  7. Beautiful photos! The berry tarts look amazing. I don't have a flying phobia, but I'm claustrophobic and hate the enclosed feeling of planes. Believe it or not, my favorite flight ever was probably the 20 hour flight to Australia, because the plane was so big and there was a ton of room! The scent of peppermint oil is calming and helps (I'd heard rescue remedy is great too), and slow, deep mindful breathing. A cocktail or beer definitely takes the edge off as well! :)

  8. Those tarts look deliscious and patriotic, depsite the cute hearts... lol!

I've been eating salads a lot lately too. I never thought of adding egg and feta together. That sounds so good. I'll have to give it a try.

I should probably start buying mini ice creams too. I always eat waaaay to much when I get a whole carton. Appropriate portions make the difference.

  9. I wish I had some advice for flights, but am not a good flier! I take Dramine for motion sickness, which usually makes me pass out, but when I was flying home last week, there was heat lightning outside the plane window as we were landing and I was freaking out so much! My husband likes to remind me that you're safer in a plane than you are in a car but that doesn't do much...
