Making Valentines

Last week, I made some heart valentines for my nephews and niece (well, the ones who are old enough to know what Valentine's Day is and aren't likely to swallow small toys, anyway).

For the boys, I made these little heart envelopes using this tutorial from the Purl bee, only instead of filling with candy, I included some tiny toy treasures (pictured here: a metal knight I brought back from the Tower of London years ago and a blue bear pencil topper).

For my niece, I made a heart hair clip in her favorite colors: pink and pink.* There's a bit of lavender in there too on the embroidery thread, but it's hard to see in this photo. I didn't use a tutorial for this one as I was just doing my regular thing.

In other news, I will be shipping out a heart garland today to a lucky someone who ordered it from my shop. It feels good to spread so much love around. ;)

Have you guys made any valentines yet? If you have, leave a link in the comments. I'd love to check them out!

*Whenever I hear "pink and pink," it makes me think, "My colors are blush and bashful" from Steel Magnolias. Anyone else remember that movie? It's one of those films I saw when I was very young so I can't even evaluate whether it is a good movie or not, but certain lines and scenes will probably stick with me forever.

  1. OMG.. Hilarious that you mention Steel Magnolias because I was just talking about that the other day with my co-workers. I had said the same thing 'pink and pink' when we were discussing someone's wedding. I love the line when says it looks like a bottle of Pepto Bismol. The movie is so funny and sad.

I always get teary-eyed(which is difficult for me) during the scene when Julia Roberts has a diabetic episode in the salon. My mother has had to deal with so many of my random asthma attacks and she's always been so calm.

  2. Those are so cute! So sweet of you to make them for your nephews and niece. :) I didn't make any valentines this year, but I did sent out some cards from my shop. And I guess I made those so technically that counts, right?

  3. The hair clip is especially cute! I bet your niece will love it.

I actually only saw Steel Magnolias for the first time about a month ago. I think it is a faultless movie...well, except for Julia Robert's haircut halfway through the film. I couldn't get on board with that. Haha.

The movie you refer to sounds interesting, I think I have seen it, that is if it is the same one that Eyelah talks about in a comment!

  6. Aw those are so sweet! I'm sure the kids are going to love them. I still have to get my valentines made for my husband and son -I decided not to spend the money on them this year and make something more personal.

  7. This is such a cute idea! My mum used to make me and my sister little valentines day gifts when we were young - it's a lovely tradition.
