My Weekend

Last weekend was supposed to be all about finishing up house projects, but Peter got called into work on Saturday and had to work most of the day, so a lot of things got pushed to Sunday, and a lot of stuff just didn't happen. But a sudden change of plans can often bring about good surprises too, like fortuitous yarn bomb sightings.

I was on my way to meet Peter after work and wound up in the middle of some festival/fair/parade thing happening in Arlington--you'd think that might be a rare occurrence, but that sort of thing seems to happen to me all the time. Actually, Peter and I are always baffled that we never seem to know stuff is happening until we're right in the middle of it. You'd think we live in a cave or something. Which we sort of do. Anyway, I was driving around a detour and ended up in Rosslyn where there's an awesome yarn bomb happening right now.

Full disclosure: I included the last photo because that dude's outfit is so good. I think I might go back and try to get better photos when the light's better; it was overcast and pretty dark on Saturday (I lightened these photos quite a bit). I also didn't have the best lens on my camera at the time.

I only took photos of this one block, but apparently it continues on to the next block as well. And they even partially covered a large sculpture in the middle of the street, so I'll definitely have to go back.

We did actually make it to the paint store on Saturday before Peter had to go to work, and we got one side of the hallway painted on Sunday. The color is actually darker than it appears in this photo (I took this after only one coat when it was still wet). We plan on doing the rest of the hallway next weekend. The color is definitely a bright coral pink and is definitely awesome.

We decided to go for a walk on Sunday to get away from the paint fumes for a while and came across lots of pretty flowers. It may officially be fall now, but there's still lots of things blooming here.

Other noteworthy events: I finished up the magpie brooches I blogged about last weekend. I'll post a pic after they arrive at their destination. I have no idea whether the awesome lady who ordered them reads my blog or not, but it's better if they are a surprise, no? Also, we finally watched Frankenweenie, and I thought it was really cute. I'm so excited it's finally October and lots of good Halloween movies will be on soon. And I had my first obligatory pumpkin spice latte this year. I have a love/hate relationship with that drink. The first sip is delicious, and then about halfway through I start to feel sick. And I'm convinced if I ever actually finished a whole cup I'd probably die. But I must have a short memory when it comes to coffee drinks because I got one last year. And I'll probably get another one next year too. ;)

Hope everyone's having a good week so far! xo, Mary

  3. How fun! The arboretum did a "yarn bomb" a couple of summers ago. I use the quotes because I'm sure it was actually a carefully orchestrated setup, because they grow a lot of trees there and probably didn't want to hurt anything.

Anyhoodle, I'm stoked about your bright coral hallway. I bought a new rug for just inside the front door, but that's the only house update over here. :-)

  9. Oh wow, what an amazing art project! Someone must have spent so long knitting all that!

  10. Somehow I have never seen a yarn bomb in person. I always miss them somehow. And I feel the same way as you about pumpkin spice lattes. I usually get one or two throughout the season because it's festive, and the first few sips are good, but then I feel overwhelmed with how artificial they taste, and don't finish them. Also, your wall looks great!
