Wreathed in Good Fortune
It's very uncharacteristic of me, but I've had a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year. Maybe it's because we didn't get a tree or do that much decorating. Maybe it's because we miss Gus a lot and are questioning whether we made the right decision pretty much every day. And maybe it's because we can't afford to get each other presents this year. I guess it's a lot of things. But I didn't want to let this holiday season pass by without making some good memories and acknowledging how grateful and fortunate we are for so many things.
So this week we took a time out from our busy schedules and just took a walk and looked at all the beautiful wreaths of fruit and greens and berries. We talked about how we'd like our home to look next year. We got coffee and smiled at all the cute dogs meeting in the street to discuss important dog things while their owners made small talk. We made plans to drive down to my parents and the town where I grew up after the holidays. And we decided to make a new tradition this year. I'm not sure what it will be yet, but I'm excited about something small and new and special.
Do you have any Christmas traditions that you're looking forward to? I'd love to know what makes the holiday special to you and yours. xo, Mary

First, I love where you live. If I could afford to live in Old Town, I totally would. :)
ReplyDeleteSecond, awww. :( I know what you mean, though. This is the first year where I haven't been totally into the whole holiday thing. I haven't been feeling well and finding the energy to do all the things just isn't happening (though I'm trying hard!). It sounds like you have some good reasons to be down this year, but I think you have some good plans, and making a small tradition sounds nice! Could be a nice dinner out together, hot cocoa and a movie at home, going out for a walk/drive to find Christmas lights, anything small. I hope you find just the thing to make you happy!
I feel for you! We're on tight purse strings this year too but I'm trying to be festive as possible even if I really just want to sleep off this cold! Have a lovely Christmas and make sure your new tradition is really awesome.
ReplyDeleteFirst, your alternative Holiday Spirit sounds great! Love all the wonderful door decoration you able to find in your neighborhood! But, most intriguing and inspiring for me will be imagining.... what behind those decorated doors:) Also, just a humble reminder it is not about getting it is about giving:) so Thanks for a wonderful post! Merry X-mas from your teammate!
ReplyDeleteThe decorators in your neighbourhood are very talented :-) Everything looks so festive!
