Dinosaur Land!

A few weeks ago, Peter and I made the long-overdue trek to Dinosaur Land. I've wanted to check out this place for so long, and we just never had time. Clearly I needed to realign my priorities because this place is awesome. It's a theme park (and I use that term loosely) of roadside-attraction-type dinosaurs that hasn't changed much since it opened in 1969. It's like walking into an episode of Land of the Lost or something. I took about a million photos, so you might want to get a snack and get comfortable. ;)

I don't remember Velociraptors being this cute in Jurassic Park.

Baby dino!

You might not be able to tell from this photo, but this one is tiny and adorable. I wanted to take him home.

There's a sign that says "Epic Battle" in front of a bunch of dinosaurs eating/attacking each other.

Brontosauruses were my favorite dinosaurs as a kid, and I was a little sad that they definitely seemed to be getting the worst of it in the battle.

I loved this guy's face. So good! :)

There were a couple dinosaurs with babies, which was the cutest, and I guess that balances out the ones eating each other.

This one just looked crazy ridiculous. I was like, that can't be based on a real dinosaur.

There were a few giant sea creatures and a King Kong near the front entrance because why not?

Peter popped out of this shark's mouth wearing some little kid's sunglasses, and I laughed for like three minutes.

Peter laughing as he climbed into King Kong's hand. Too bad you can't climb on the dinosaurs too.

I think it's pretty much impossible to pose in front of a large dinosaur and not start laughing. Also, a gust of wind came at me right as Peter took this photo, and it looks like I'm in an 80's video, which is awesome.

So to sum up, dinosaurs are cool. We had fun. If you're like me, and you love kitschy mid-century roadside stuff, then you'll love Dinosaur Land too. It's about an hour and a half by car from DC...I think (we stopped on the way there and back, so it took us longer). Admission is $6 for adults, which may be a bit pricey, but where else are you going to see this stuff?

  2. I had no clue this existed! It looks spectacularly cheesy! I think the photo of you is great, and I got a good chuckle out of the Peter, shark, glasses combo.

    1. I know they look like googly eyes! It's a lot of fun if you like kitschy stuff. The gift shop alone is kind of spectacular. :)

  4. What!! How have I never heard of this?! I was super obsessed with dinosaurs as a kid. I would make my sister pretend we were dinosaurs and we'd crawl all over the house eating imaginary plants and roaring. Never had any epic battles, though. Haha.

Also, how cute are you! Getting a shot of you on the blog is like seeing a unicorn. (Or maybe I should say dinosaurs? Hahahaha.)

    1. That's hilarious! I love that you made your sister be a dinosaur too. :)

And thank you! I realized not that long ago that I have almost no photos of myself from the last few years--I'm always on the other side of the camera (and that's really how I like it haha). But it did occur to me that some day I might wish I had a few. So I'm trying to be better about that! :)
