Nice to Meet You.

I checked my analytics recently, which I haven't done in a long while, and realized I've picked up some new readers. It occurred to me that I should introduce myself. Actually, I've had it on my must-do list to create an "about me" page for, I don't know, about two years now. I'm really terrible at this sort of thing, but here goes.

I live just outside Washington, DC with my boyfriend of about a bazillion years. His name is Peter. We bought our first house in August, and we are slowly but surely fixing it up and making it pretty. Our decorating budget is a bit on the teeny tiny side, so I will have to be creative, shop sales and vintage, and do some diys. We've already made some progress, though, which you can see here.

This blog is about many things, but mostly about art, design, diys, inspiration, handmade, crafts, vintage, photography, and my life. I have a shop where I sell felt jewelry, illustrated journals, and vintage earrings, but I'm planning to add new items soon!

I can't imagine a life without books, and I visit my local library every week. (My mom's first question to me when we talk is almost always "What are you reading?") I love classic movies and Masterpiece on PBS, but lest you think my taste too refined, I've also seen every episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer more times than I can count, and I force Peter to watch Toddlers and Tiaras (I know, it's horrible) whenever it comes on.

I never met a vegetable I didn't like, but I only eat fruit in dessert form. That is all.

I told you I was terrible at this. Anything you want to know? Ask me! Leave a comment or email me at myhideawaydesigns@gmail.com  :)
xo,
Mary

  2. I never met a vegetable I didn't like either. My husband's family is very meat-centric, and I'm the weirdo who likes salad. That outfit is adorbs, by the way.

  3. I loved reading this. It is funny but I hate writing 'About' page and I never know where to start - the beginning is always very awkward in my case - so I start in the middle.

I do read a lot, too. In my native language (Russian) I read so fast, it used to be a problem before laptops and e-books, because I would never have enough books with me on vacation. I am reading Memoirs of a Psychiatrist now and it is a very hilarious (and HUGE) book.

  4. Nice to get a little info into your life. Cute picture as well.

I'm with you on the veggies. I could live off of broccoli and asparagus. Unfortunately I feel the same way about chocolate, and that is where my problem comes in!

  7. What a gorgeous blog! I love the pictures and your shop sounds exactly my sort of shop . The only problem is that I live in the UK. It's lovely to have discovered your blog through NaBloPoMo.

  8. You only eat fruit in dessert form? As a fruit lover, I'm a bit stunned, I suppose. I just had a banana for lunch, and I practically worship mangoes, pears and any sort of berry. As for "Toddlers and Tiaras"? ... I watch it too, sometimes. If it's on and nothing else is, I'll watch it. It's junk TV, really. (Just like "Breaking Amish" and practically any other TV show on TLC these days.) And, personally, I can't wait to see more of your house, bit by bit. :)

  11. How aren't we besties in real life?? I have seen every episode from Buffy the Vampire Slayer like 3 times. All 7 seasons. I know thats crazy and I also love the movie too. Have you've been watching Masterpiece Theater lately? They have that new show Call The Midwife. I can't wait for Downton Abbey.

  13. I share you love of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. My best friend at I used to have 24 hour Buffy Marathons where we would literally spend 24 hours watching our favourite episodes. I am trying to get my boy to watch it with me, to no avail. He just don't get it.
