Snow globe

February is the shortest month but often feels quite long to me. It's no secret I'm sick of the perpetual cold and damp. But I'm trying to remember that winter can be beautiful too. The truth is when warmer days approach, and everyone rushes outdoors, I will miss the quiet nights.

The other morning I was lying awake, it was early and barely light, and I heard a train whistle in the distance several times. The nearest train station to us (and I mean a proper train, not metro) is several miles away. I can't remember the last time I heard a train whistle. It doesn't get that quiet around here often and probably only when mornings are so cold everyone spends as long as they can huddled under covers.

  1. I'm just about done with February too. It's been too grey for me. (PS: I hate beardcore music too lol!)

  2. Are those all recent photos? You've guys have gotten a lot more snow that us. It's been cold here though. I don't want to do anything but snuggle in my blankets watching TV. Yes.. lots and lots of Netflix.

  3. I'm fed up with February too! I've been trying really hard this year to see the good things about Winter and I was managing until 2 weeks ago when this cold snap got me!

  4. I'm getting snowed on as we speak! It looks like it's coming down at about an inch per hour, and this is supposed to last until around 9 tonight. Woo...

On the bright side, your pictures are very pretty.

  8. I like these photos! My favorite ones are definitely the ones that are deliberately out of focus. Makes winter weather look softer, rather than freezing. It actually is snowing here today, and is going to for the next two days, I guess. Like you said--one of my favorite things about snow is the quietness it creates. It blankets everything--the ground, the sound. It's nice to have things so peaceful (just not cold). And the last two towns I've lived in both had trains. Boone, Iowa, has 80 trains per day. PER DAY. I lived a mile from the tracks, and it was always noisy. Here, in the city, I can still hear some trains pass by, and they're probably two or three miles away. Also, I love the light in that first window! Again, soft looking and light. It looks staged somehow. ;)
