Bits of August

Untitled
Packing up an order with a handmade card, pretty yellow flowers on the last (very sunny and warm) day of the month, a postcard Dawn sent me from her road trip out west (which I'm using as a bookmark now); and bright red daisies in my window.

Untitled
A postcard from Ayla (who went on a whirlwind trip to Europe) and an illustrated cover of The New Yorker that I liked a lot; early morning light shining up onto the pendant light in the dining room; late afternoon shadows on our table; and a pretty pink and purple crepe myrtle tree in my neighborhood that seemed to blossom overnight.

Untitled
Pink skies and pink blossoms; an afternoon spent watching the ducks in the river; and the most lemony thing I may have ever had.

I want to say thank you to Ayla, Dawn, and my other friends who let me live vicariously through their summer adventures while I was land-locked to my couch. August was a tough month. I'm still struggling to get healthy and get rid of this pain. It's the weirdest thing, but I've honestly recovered from surgeries in the past faster than I've been able to recover from my current set of health issues. I don't know what that's about.

I hesitated to even mention it here on the blog. Most of the time, I come to this corner of the internet to escape real life problems, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to let them in here. But this stubborn pain has sort of hijacked my life over the past month, and it seemed weird and somehow dishonest to post pretty pictures and not mention it at all. Of course, there's always much more to a person's life than what can be gathered through tidbits and instagram posts. Anyway, I'm doing my best to just get on with things and planning all the adventures I'll share just as soon as I'm able. xo, Mary

  1. Hope you feel much better soon. It's horrid when pain /illness takes it's time to heal up! Lovely photos as always.

  8. Really glad you let on. And I hope you feel lots better soon. Stubborn pain can be quite disheartening. I can see that you are trying to feel better by surrounding yourself with loveliness :)

  9. I do hope you feel like yourself again soon. It's so hard when something takes your whole focus away from your regular routine. Hopefully whatever it is will work its way out of your system. :)

  10. It's been awhile since I've asked "How are you doing?" so, for now, "HOW IS YOU, WOMAN?" ...okay, so that wasn't as graceful of a question. However, it doesn't mean I care any less. I care, Mary. I CARE. So, really, how are you? I hope September has been treating you better than August. I reckon you'll feel stupendous after eating another dozen or so pumpkin muffins. Also, you are quite welcome for the postcard! I was happy to send it, and I had hoped that you would find some small amount of happiness in a hand-drawn postcard. You're a good blogging friend, Mary.
