Scenes from (a Colorful) Life

This week's color is blue, of course, which is probably my all-time favorite color. I never met a shade of blue I didn't like.

Oh, if you're wondering what that thing is in the first photo, it's an old police phone box. You still see them around DC sometimes. They haven't actually been used as emergency call boxes in a long time. In 2000, the city started a program to refurbish the abandoned boxes, and some neighborhoods commissioned artists to paint the insides (you can read about the program here if you're interested). And if you want to know what they used to look like when in service, here's an old photo.

What are you guys up to this weekend? We've had a rainy week, and it shows no sign of letting up for the weekend, so I'm guessing we'll probably be spending a lot of time indoors. We still have projects to finish around the house, and I really need to finish items for the shop too, so maybe that's not such a bad thing.

But on the other hand, I might want to get out of the house, projects be damned, if for no other reason than to get warm for a bit. We are trying not to turn the heat on until November, but as I type this I'm wearing two sweaters, two pairs of socks, sweat pants, a knit hat, and a permi-blanket, which is basically just a blanket I refuse to take off. The lure of warm coffee shops and book stores is hard to ignore on cold, rainy days. I know someone out there knows what I'm talking about. :)

  1. I'm actually going to a concert on Sunday which I'm excited about because I took off the following day. :) I the the 2nd to last pic may be my favorite. I would like to take a walk down that street.

  2. Great photos--I love the one of the jet contrails! Funny how your weather in DC sounds so much worse than ours near the Canadian border. We've had a spectacular, warm fall . . . but we may pay in January!

  3. This electric blue is so beautiful! My weekend plans are catching up on Halloween costumes and orders, so I'm going to busy behind a sewing machine!

  4. I was just about the ask what the first picture was, I like the art project. Lots of rain here too. I managed to find Vertigo over at the library, so watching that, is one of the things I'll be doing this weekend. Hope you'll have a good one.

  7. Ha, I was about to ask what that first thing was. You knew! :-)

This weekend was productive, which is good because I have a lot going on for school this week and won't have time to do much else. I hope you warmed up! We already turned our heat on at night. I just couldn't do it. You're a trooper.
