Plant Babies

Long time, no blog! It has been a busy, busy summer. I've been growing lots of plants and flowers, and I wanted to share just a few of my plant babies with you guys.

My favorites are the ones that look like they could be sea plants or animals...I don't know why...I just love them! I also really love the Donkey Tail plant, and I plan on transferring it to a hanging planter when it gets a little bigger. A couple of the leaves fell off and already started propagating themselves, which is cool, so new ones should continue growing in the same spot.

They've actually all had a major growth spurt since I took these photos about a week ago, and some of them are probably ready to move into bigger containers now.

It's funny, all the years we lived in apartments, I didn't really care about plants that much. They rarely lived very long, for one thing, and they seemed to be more work than they were worth. But now I get so excited at every new leaf and tiny bud that pops up. It has been really rewarding to watch all my plants grow the past couple of years, much more than I would've ever thought. And I totally feel like they make a room happier just by being there. Is that nuts? Am I officially an old lady now? Probably. Just leave me alone with my watering can and my house slippers. :)

  2. I love house plants! Sadly most of my succulents from last summer are slowly dying (I just don't have an indoor green thumb, man), but this motivates me to get some new ones and try again. They look great!

    1. Thanks, Melissa! Weirdly, I have had the opposite luck...my indoor plants have done much better than my outdoor ones. I think that's because I can't control the amount of water they get outside (we had sooooo much rain for several months straight, like torrential rains every day, and my plants all got majorly waterlogged. In hindsight, I should've moved what I could inside, but I'm hoping there's still time for them to bounce back. If only we could send some of our rain to California, and they could send us some sun! :)

  3. I love the plants!!! I've bought a few plants over the past few months and they are just making it. I always struggle in my apartment because we don't get a lot of lighting. I always have to get plants that don't require much light but even then they don't seem to want to grow.

    1. You should get a snake plant! We have one in an area that doesn't get very much light, and we don't need to water it often at all. We've had ours for a couple years, and it's been really easy. :)

  4. I don't have a green thumb, but was thinking of buying a few succulents. I love your collection, especially the one in pic #5 :)

    1. That's a jade plant. You should get one! They are pretty easy to care for, and you don't have to water them that often. Just watch for mealybugs (looks like tiny white fuzz usually on the underside of leaves), which are a common problem for jade plants but relatively easy to deal with should you get them. Jade plants can grow really big in the right environment, and they are beautiful! :)

  5. I love succulents! If I ever get plants for my studio...that's what it will be. I need easy plants or they'll never survive! Luckily Jesse takes care of all the other plants in the house for me :)
